The difference between a house and a home is comfort. When you are home you should be able to kick off your shoes and relax. One of the most uncomfortable feelings throughout many homes is a cold floor. National Floors Direct is in the comfort business. Our staff has put together a short article on how to make your floors warmer and your home more comfortable.

The best way to combat cold floors is radiant flooring. To begin, radiant flooring not only heats your floors but can also heat your entire house. Radiant flooring is comprised of electric cabling or water tubes that conduct heat. Under the right circumstances, radiant flooring may not be as expensive as you think. For homes that have access to a basement or crawl space, a radiant floor heating system will cost you only a couple hundred dollars. In most cases, your existing flooring does not need to be removed.

In many cases, crawl spaces and basements are what lead to cold drafty floors. Instead of spending hundreds on a floor heating system, why not insulate your basement ceiling or crawl space. For those homeowners who only use your basement for storage, ceiling insulation should do the job. If you are planning on spending significant time in your basement and want to create a comfortable extension to your home, installing insulation in both the ceiling and basement walls will help regulate the temperature in both your basement and floors above.

Finally, National Floors Direct recognizes that radiant floors and additional insulation may not be the best solutions for everyone. Believe it or not, a good old-fashioned well-placed rug can do wonders for keeping you comfortable on cold floors. Placing rugs in bathrooms, laundry rooms, mudrooms, etc. will help you combat the coldest of floors and go a long way in creating a comfortable space.
