National Floors Direct takes 40,000 s.f. in Elkridge

Published: April 21, 2009

National Floors Direct Inc. is expanding its reach into the mid-Atlantic and has leased space in Elkridge from which it plans to launch the effort.

The company, a Boston-area flooring service firm, is taking about 40,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space in the ProLogis Park I-95 Distribution Center.

About 15 people will work at the site at 7111 Troy Hill Drive, said Matthew Laraway, a broker with Cushman & Wakefield of Maryland Inc.

Laraway and Cushman & Wakefield broker Ned Brady represented ProLogis in the leasing deal. The asking rent for remaining space in the building is $5.95 per square foot. The 67,620-square-foot ProLogis building has been vacant since November 2008, when Service Express moved to larger space in the Hollins End Corporate Park in Baltimore County.

National Floors President Aaron Rosenberg said in a telephone interview the new space could be ready by May and will serve as a showroom for the company’s range of carpet, hardwood and laminate flooring materials. Rosenberg said he decided to expand into the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area for its reputation as a large, affluent and well-known market. The Elkridge site was ideally located to make the company’s push into the region, and into Maryland and Washington, D.C., in particular.

National Floors may consider expanding into other markets depending on the success of the mid-Atlantic expansion, Rosenberg said.
