Avoid Using Ammonia When Cleaning Your Hardwood Floor

Hardwood Floor Cleaning

Hardwood floors require regular maintenance to keep them looking new. Allowing dirt and dust to settle into the floor can weaken your floor over time. Neglecting your hardwood floor could lead to premature aging and the need to refinish regularly - a process that could become not only time-consuming, but also expensive.

When cleaning your hardwood floor, reach for a broom first. Use only the mildest cleaning products designed for hardwood. When mopping is required, use minimal water and make sure any water dries thoroughly in order to protect your floor from any staining and mildew growth. Before you apply anything to your hardwood floor, first test the product in a small area to make sure it does not damage the hardwood.

When choosing a cleaning product or method for your hardwood floors, take great care to avoid using ammonia. Ammonia will discolor and deteriorate your hardwood floors. Straight ammonia or ammonia-based products will also dull the finish and take years off of your flooring.
