Types of Hardwood Floor Molding

Hardwood Molding

Hardwood flooring is sometimes finished with hardwood molding, which serves as a beautiful transition between rooms, floors, or where a hardwood floor meets a wall or other fixed object. Hardwood floor molding adds a sophisticated touch to your home's decor.

Types of hardwood floor molding include:

  • Reducer molding is used to cover or hide unfinished hardwood edging. Reducer molding can also be used around fireplaces and other fixed objects.
  • Bi-level reducer molding transitions hardwood floors to lower vertical heights, such as lower floors with tile or carpet.
  • Threshold molding is commonly used in doorways to create a sleek transition from room to room, as well as a transition from hardwood to carpet.
  • T-molding can join two hardwood floors together, or hardwood with carpet, or hardwood with tile floors.
  • Quarter round molding is a small touch of molding installed around the baseboard.
  • Bull nose or stair molding is used to transition between landings and step-downs.
  • Wall base molding, much like a baseboard, is installed on a finished wall to give the meeting of hardwood and wall a more cohesive, finished look.
