How to Remove Carpet Indentations
Removing Carpet Indentations
Carpet indentations caused by furniture and other heavy objects are an inevitable occurrence in any home. The good news is that removing carpet indentations can be a fairly easy task given the right materials and enough patience.
Gently Remove Carpet Indentations
Surprisingly, ice cubes are the most common method of removing carpet indentations. To remove the indentation, place one or two ice cubes into each indentation and allow it to melt, or crush ice in a towel or dishrag, which can spread easier than a few cubes can. Once the ice has melted, use a stiff brush to coax the carpet back up, using the leftover water to easily manipulate and shape the carpet back into its original shape. Allow the carpet to fully dry and then vacuum. Another method to remove carpet indentations is working the carpet pile back into place with your fingers or the edge of a spoon, dampening the area, gently heating it with a hair dryer, and then reworking the fibers back into place.
Prevent Carpet Indentations
To help prevent carpet indentations in the first place, use furniture cups under the legs of heavy pieces or periodically move your furniture a few inches backwards or sideways to disperse weight on your carpet.
