How to Take Care of Slippery Hardwood Flooring
Slippery Hardwood Flooring Safety
While hardwood flooring is a beautiful, elegant choice for your Manchester, Concord, or Jamestown home, hardwood floors can become quite slippery. Wood floors can become slippery as a result of high-gloss finishes or wax buildup. Read on for simple solutions to provide more traction on your hardwood floors:
- Mix together one part vinegar to two parts water and gently mop your hardwood with the mixture. Let the floor dry naturally or wipe it with a clean, damp mop. Vinegar will break down old buildup left by wax-based varnishes.
- Sand and refinish floors if you feel there is significant wax build-up on the floors.
- Avoid treating floors with wax or glossy varnishes, which reduce the friction on your floors and can build up over time, making them even more slippery.
- Place non-skid protectors under furniture legs to minimize any potential injury.
- Add throw rugs and non-slip underpads to high-traffic areas, such as entry ways and stairways.
