Using Radiant Heating with Your Washington DC Wood Flooring

A growing source of heating in both residential and commercial properties, radiant heating supplies heat directly to the floor to panels in the wall or ceiling. Radiant heating delivers heat directly from the hot surface to the people and objects in the room, making it more efficient than baseboard and forced-air heating because no energy is lost through ducts.

Radiant heating can be used with laminated, engineered, and solid wood flooring, including oak, ash, cherry, maple, walnut, and other varieties. Not all species of wood are good candidates for installation over radiant heat, so its best to follow manufacturers' recommendations for a species' suitability over this type of heating system. Natural hardwoods, especially narrow boards, warm quickly and better accommodate wood's expansion and contraction. Radiant heat systems can be installed in just one room or throughout a new or existing home.
