How to Reduce Back Pain from Vacuuming
How To Vacuum
Vacuuming can be a strenuous task, and one that requires back strength and flexibility. To make sure vacuuming your Avon, Manchester, or Providence home's floors isn't a pain in the back, follow these tips:
- Practice proper posture while vacuuming. Do not stiffen your back, bur rather align your back and body in a relaxed position.
- Keep your back in a neutral position and do not round your back when you bend your knees. Keep your back straight and let your legs and arms do the work while you maneuver the vacuum cleaner.
- When you push the vacuum cleaner forward, keep one leg in front of another and lean forward. When you pull the vacuum toward you, shift your weight and lean into your back leg.
- If you need to stoop down while vacuuming, bend your legs instead of rounding your back, or drop to one knee.
- Keep the vacuum directly in front of you at all times.
- When lifting the vacuum, bend at the knees and use your legs, not your lower back.
